A new initiative by Choose Love Celebrate Life (CLCL) is helping individuals and families access essential items at no cost. Founded by Tiffany deSousa, the nonprofit launched Community Threads, a store located at the township-owned Civic Plaza that provides donated items completely free to those in need. 2026-02-28 BR

DeSousa, who experienced homelessness as a teenager, created CLCL to support vulnerable youth and families. She explained that Ocean, Monmouth, and Atlantic counties currently lack shelters specifically for homeless youth, making prevention and community support critical. 2026-02-28 BR

Community Threads operates like a regular retail store but without prices. Visitors can receive clothing, linens, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, children’s items, and other everyday necessities. The goal is to reduce financial stress on low-income families while providing a welcoming, dignified shopping experience. 2026-02-28 BR

The store is part of CLCL’s broader Community Cares pilot program, which includes three phases:

  1. Community Cares Connection Line – A hotline that connects individuals to local resources such as clothing, healthcare, diapers, utility assistance, and veteran services.
  2. Community Threads Store – A free storefront where people can obtain essential donated items.
  3. Future Delivery Program – A planned service that will deliver items directly to people who cannot access the store, helping reduce stigma and barriers to support. 2026-02-28 BR

Community Threads is open to a wide range of people in need, including families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, foster caregivers, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Volunteers and community donations help keep the store stocked, with current needs including children’s clothing and shoes.
