Community Engagement Intern

Position Detail

  • Reports To:  Internship Supervisor / Program Director

  • Location:  On-Site (Community Threads + Event Locations)

Position Summary:

The In-Person Community Engagement Intern is ideal for students in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related fields seeking direct experience in community-based programming. Interns will gain hands-on experience in event management, donation operations, and crisis-prevention training while supporting CLCL’s trauma-informed mission. This role is central to Community Threads and Free Family Fun Night events, ensuring community members are welcomed with dignity and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setup, execution, and breakdown of Free Family Fun Nights (active participation required).
  • Sort, organize, and maintain clothing donations and inventory at Community Threads.
  • Participate in warm line training, learning protocols for supportive listening, referral pathways, and crisis prevention operations.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for the CCC Warm Line during scheduled shifts (after completing warm line training).
  • Greet, engage, and assist community members to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory logs, donation tracking, and volunteer sign-in protocol.
  • Support interns and staff with logistics for community partnerships, special events, and outreach.
  • Attend and participate in board meetings, staff meetings, and required trainings.
  • Professionally represent CLCL in all community-facing interactions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with diverse populations.
  • Ability to complete hands-on, active tasks in a fast-paced community setting.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in community mental health, nonprofit operations, crisis-prevention, or social services.
  • Willingness to learn warm line operations and follow communication protocols.

Internship Details:

  • Commitment: 10–15 hours per week (flexible scheduling, occasional evenings/weekends for events).
  • Duration: Semester-based or summer placement (with potential extension).
  • Compensation: Unpaid; course credit or professional development opportunities available.
